During high resistance, rigorous cardio my heart rate ceiling is about 140-145bpm.
My aim is to lose body fat, so I’m aiming for a heart rate of 50-70% that of my max. Should I try and make that 50-70% of 180bpm or my 145?
Will it mean I need to work harder than others with a normal resting rate to lose body fat (based purely on heart rate)?
Otherwise, you’re correct that…
50 to 60% of your maximum heart rate = beginner workout zone
60 to 70% of your maximum heart rate = fat burning zone
70 to 80% of your maximum heart rate = cardiovascular training zone
If you don’t want to go the to doctor, I would try the more conservative approach of exercising at 60% of your 145 BPM and see if this is working for you. Use the tape measure instead of the scales to gauge fat loss in case you put on muscle which is heavier than fat.
If the tape measure says that you haven’t lost inches then it’s possible that you might have to work harder.

I’d say it would be a great starter, but test it yourself, and maybe ask him to string it differently for you since everyone has personal preference on how a head throws.
