About Recumbent Exercise Bikes
Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don’t take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out.

The term recumbent literally means “lying down.” Exercising in a recumbent or reclining position allows the user to have full ergonomic back support, without causing strain on the arms, neck and shoulders, all of which can be common effects of using an upright bicycle. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

Question
not trying to be stereotypical, but i see mostly women using them.

basically will it make me sweat

Answered by Spiffy
Not really. At the gym I’ve compared the calorie burning on all the machines, and bikes burn the least. Walking is better than riding a bike for calorie burning.
Answered by Sai2301
nice, but doesnt provide a complete workout…i`d rather use a tredmill or eliptical for cardio…dont forget to tone as well
Answered by Mr. T
yes. it’s a type of cardio, and any cardio will make you sweat/lose weight. it depends on how hard/long you work. but, some forms of cardio are more effective than others, i’d recommend interval running, or elliptical.
Question
So what builds stamina? Even though I am not always racing, I am always riding my bike. I can go fast, but just not for too long. Help Please I need more stamina to win more races!!!!!!!!!
Answered by Bob A
It never gets easier, you just go faster.
Greg LeMond

Pain is temporary. Quitting lasts forever.
Lance Armstrong

Go ride more, go ride harder.

Answered by John B
If you want to build stamina, then you need to go off for long rides. Keep the speed down, if you start to get out of breath then you’re going too fast, and will tire yourself too quickly.

Try to ride at a fairly even speed, and build up gradually.
Don’t increase the distance you ride by more than 10% each week, and alternate between easy rides one day, and long rides the next. This will give your body time to get used to the extra work you’re asking it to do.

Doing the occasional long hilly ride will increase your strength endurance, whereas doing short, fast, rides will increase your speed.

Keep at it, and you’ll get there.

Question
I’m not trying to be cocky or what but in I raced with my friends who have most speed & stamina in running, cross country, biking & swimming and I got at worst the 3rd place. But when it comes to play basketball, defending an amature & making just one accurate jumpshot already tires me.
Answered by Kwame Klown
Do suicides.

Start at one baseline. Run as fast you can to the first free throw line, then back to original baseline. Run to the halfcourt line, then back. Run to the opposite free throw line, then back. Run to the opposite baseline, then back. That’s 1 suicide for you. Repeat. Do several sets of those until you puke.

wind spirts aka horse of unlv’s(a unlv is a running exercise made famous by the running rebel bbal team in the early90′s. you run from baseline to free throw line and back then baseline to halfcourt line and back then free throw line on the other end and back and then the baseline on the other end and back and then five sprints back and forth from baseline to baseline in 1minute 32 seconds or less
Answered by Ruck Fules
For me what works is treadmill as fast as the treadmill can go, doing it everyday. For me 14km per hour for 2 kilometers.
Some bike then push ups and followed by light weights! Try ankle weights
Answered by maddog198107
