About Recumbent Exercise Bikes
Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don’t take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out.

The term recumbent literally means “lying down.” Exercising in a recumbent or reclining position allows the user to have full ergonomic back support, without causing strain on the arms, neck and shoulders, all of which can be common effects of using an upright bicycle. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

Question
I’m home schooled and have no friends and an overprotective mom and a rich dad who doesn’t let me go down the block, the usual, so I won’t have anything to do in the summer. Basically all I have to exercise besides an ancient exercise bike is a trampoline.

Does it increase my stamina? I want to get in better shape by the end of he summer, and have noting else it do.

If it doesn’t, please recommend something else that’s possible in doors.

Thanks

Answered by Bulletproof
Using the trampoline will definitely increase your stamina. If you get tired of the trampoline, you could always get WiiFit, or do push-ups and sit-ups.
Question
i’m 14 and i’m trying to train to beat my bro in a 100 yard race I have one of those Stationary bikes, but will riding it help at all in such little time.
Answered by 10 seconds of fame
stamina won’t be improved that mush since you aren’t really breathing that hard whenever you ride a bike. You need to read your bike longer or more often to get quicker results in strengthened legs. stretch after you ride your bike, because whenever I don’t, my quads are really sore!!!!
Question
I road and mountain bike. I’ve hit 27 on my road bike but want to step it up. I race mountain bikes but I want to get up and go, you know? Basically how do I get more stamina?

you know the answer

ride more

train

mt bikes are never as fast as road bikes, on the road anyway

lock your suspension
inflate tires to max
get slick and or thinner and high-pressure tires

oh
also
go downhill all the time
that works

If you’ve never heard of him, look up Eddie Merckx on Google or Wikipedia.

Eddie had just two words of advice on how to go faster: “Ride Lots.”

You need to ride more. Learn to spin at 70-90 rpm’s at all times. Go out and climb hills until your legs give out or you run out of breath. Recover and repeat again and again. You can also do sprints to where you go as fast as you can for as long as you can and then drop back to recover. I like to hit the bottom of the hill at speed and try to stay in that gear as long as I can before I have to down shift. I start out with an easy 10 min min warm up and do another 20 min before I do any serious hill climbs or sprints. Ride until you get tired and then keep going. You will get a second wind where your body releases endorphins and the pain in your legs will go away. I like to drink a protein shake right after a hard ride to help build muscles.

Eating a lot of carbs like spaghetti the day before a hard ride or race will help a lot. Your body will convert it to glycogen and store it in your muscles and liver for quick energy.

Question
I would take trains for the big traveling distances, but might be biking 20-30 miles daily. Are German shepherds athletic enough to do this or is it asking too much? Should I look at a breed with more stamina?
Answered by AY
If you’re looking for a dog who can do long, steady runs for 10 miles and up, you should look for:

• Weimaraners
• Goldendoodles
• German shorthaired pointers
• Vizslas
• Jack Russell terriers

I don’t know of any dog breed who could run 20 to 30 miles a day. Yes that is asking too much of the dog. A working sheep dog may put in that many miles or more total, but not just running and nothing else. They stand and sit quite a bit too. You could get a side car and take the dog for short runs of a few miles.
Answered by Adam Wilkinson
I don’t think a dog could reach the brakes.
Answered by Lorraine
Any dog that you try and do this with would need to be totally sound and not too young, and would need to have built up gradually to cope with this sort of activity. Not easy. I think as Marcy says, no breed can be expected to run quite that much.

I knew a guy that prepared to walk with his rottie dog from UK to Rome. He prepared his dog for over a year to walk (not run) about 25 miles per day.

He didn’t complete it unfortunately, but more because of the problems he met on the way…. wish I remember what as obviously you could face the same problems.

Spend more time on the bike…go up hills, ride in a higher gear…

If you want to ride fast, you have to train fast. Use “interval” training, also known as wind sprints. Long slow training rides won’ do it, that just trains you to do long slow rides.
