Question
I want to lose roughly 70lbs. Ideally, I’d be extatic to lose it by June..

I never make it to the gym because of my classes and working full time. Does anyone know of a great exercise bike (any kind) that could help me? or maybe another affordable exercise machine that can be used to 3 to 5 times a week to aid in my weight loss?

Any other diet advice is also welcome! thank you!!

1. jump rope
2. treadmill
3. elliptical trainer
Answered by pacecubes
Get a treadmill…or better yet…get some workout clothes and get outside to run.
Answered by stalkr23
It’s great that you want to make a change, but be realistic too. You may be able to reach your goal by July or August.

If you can afford it, I would go with an elliptical, the best workout for the money. Otherwise any upright bike or treadmill that provides a variety of programs to keep you motivated and challenged is great too.

If you want, visit my website – www.pointnutrition.com – I can do phone consultations if you like. Just click on “make and appointment” or email me for further info. and I can help you get on the right track and balance calories and exercise for the best results.

a treadmill, is more effective for weight loss because it is more load bearing. the classic aerobic exercises are swimming, cycling and running. (althought i have heard that prolonged sex is quite good also :o )I find it is psychologically easier to do something everyday, even if on some days you only do a light/gentle workout. I try to run a few times a week and swim everyday, but I am a male, and my aim is losing about 10 kgs, with a current fitness level that is not bad, just a bit too sedentary. You probably already know this but try to eat meals regularly, cut down on take away food, plenty of green salad and fresh vegies, and if you are eating something naughty, just eat less of it than you normally would, like twenty percent less to half. keep up some protein, it will make you feel full and your body needs it. be gentle to yourself, do it all in moderation and good luck! messege me if you want to chat about it or get moral support.
Question
http://www.sportsauthority.com/category/index.jsp?categoryId=3077627&cp=3077568&clickid=topnav_fitness_3

I’m looking for a ride that can get me to school and work (about 2 miles away), and I’d also like to hit the bike trails (5-10) miles for some exercise. I’m on quite a budget, and I have a coupon for Sports Authority. Any help appreciated

Answered by Ric
Well first off your link has Mountain Bikes, BMX Bikes, Comfort Bike and Road Bikes. As to which is the best would depend on the conditions you’re riding in, are you riding on pavement or dirt.
Just to let you know , anything you purchase from Sports Authority, Walmart or Kmart isn’t going to last a great deal of time or be real trust worthy. If I were you I’d save my money and visit my Local Bike Shop or start looking on craigslist or advertise for something used and you’ll end up with a better bike.
Question
I am in the market for a recumbent bike for fitness and commuting purposes. I’m willing to spend up to say $ 1300 to buy a reliable bike from a likewise reliable builder. Any suggestions?
Answered by racerx526
try looking at the website for giant or specialized, they have some pretty good prices.
Answered by Ric
I personally would stay away from Bicycle dealers if your looking for a recumbent, bike dealers tend not to know how to set you up on a bent. Bacchetta makes a Caf’e that runs $ 995 and the Agio at $ 1250 and if you want the Giro 26 runs $ 1550. For the purpose of commuting the Caf’e or Agio would work real well. Check out there site http://www.bacchettabikes.com/
Burley, Rans, and EZ also makes several bents in that price range,

Question
Hello,
I have bought a Pro Fitness Magnetic exercise bike, I believe its a model number 923/7386 second hand. Its dismantled but I don’t know how to assemble it, and it didn’t come with any instructions : 0. I have tried calling the manufacturer but they are closed until Monday. This was going to be a gift over the weekend and I wanted to give it assembled (look so much nicer than in the box) So would really really appreciate it if anybody has an instruction manual that they could maybe if at all possible scan and email to me : ) ? Even if its instructions for a different model number , I may still be able to work it out : ) I would be very grateful and award you the best answer : )
Thanks so much
Merry Christmas

Question
I’m looking to buy a bike for leisure purposes. Just riding around the neighborhood or at the park. I would also like to use it for some fitness purposes also, such as high speed riding or possibly some trail riding. I don’t want to drop more than $ 250 since its purpose it more for fun and I’m totally ok with buying used. What could you recommend on what to buy, (type, style) and where would be good places to look?
Answered by Bob A
Go to the local bike shop and look at the comfort bikes. The only thing you will find for $ 250 is a department store bike that will be junk. A bike that is fun is one that fits you and don’t give you any problems when you ride it. Check out Giant, Fuji, Raleigh, Jamis, Trek, Specialized. Stay far away from Walmart and other department store bikes, they only come in one size and won’t last long. Check the local ebay and Craig’s list for a good used shop quality bike, you can get a nice bike for under $ 250.
Answered by a.s. roma
Try a hybrid. Check your local bike shop and ask for bikes in your price range. Bike shops often will have sales on year old models. this means you can get better for less.
Answered by Jimmy S
A properly fitted hybrid. That’s sort of a cross between a mountain bike and a road bike. Very popular.

Not likely to find one at that price at the local bike shop, but go there anyway and test ride some to get an idea of sizing and options. Once you’ve got a bit of an education, be a wise shopper on craigs or ebay or even the box store. All three are a gamble so be careful.
